Part I: The Letter
- Chapter One — On the eve of his thirty-first birthday, Tom is interrupted mid-spiral by an email he’d written off as spam: after eight years on the waitlist, he’s been accepted into Cub Club.
- Chapter Two — Tom makes his way across town to City Hall for his first meeting, narrating his reasons for moving here and running the picket line outside.
- Chapter Three — The interview with his caseworker. Tom arrives over-prepared and under-qualified, and finally learns exactly where he stands.
- Chapter Four — Tom refuses to accept the verdict, and a desperate last plea turns the meeting in a direction neither of them expected.
- Chapter Five — Tom’s old college roommate Victor takes him out to celebrate his birthday and his first match, over dinner at the city’s finest Domino’s Pizza.
